Student Clubs and Activities Altar Servers Students from St. Mary's School serve for school and parish liturgies and prayer services. Activities include opportunities for training and celebration. Art Club After-school art classes are held each Wednesday after school. Students learn various art techniques, experiment with different mediums and even learn a little bit of art history! Chess Club Primary and Intermediate students are invited to Chess Clubs. The intermediate Club meets after school once a week for most of the school year. The Primary Club meets at lunch once a week for part of the school year. An Intermediate Team is chosen to compete in Regional Chess tournaments. We have had many successful chess players among our students. Green Team A Green Team of student volunteers lives out our stewardship responsibility by cleaning our playground on a regular basis. Homework Club Students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 are invited to come to supervised Homework Club after school most days until 3:30 pm. Teachers and Teaching Assistants encourage and assist students with homework.
Math Enrichment Students from Grades 4, 5 and 6 meet once a week for Math enrichment activities. They solve problems to get points for their team, in a game like "Jeopardy"! So far, the "smarties" are winning. Peer Helpers Grade 7 students may apply to be Peer Helpers. Peer Helpers assist with playground supervision at recess and lunch. Students learn conflict resolution skills to aid their peers on the playground. Recorder Club The recorder Club meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:15 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Approximately 40 students have signed up!
Holy Childhood Fundraising Our Grade 7 class assumes responsibility for raising funds for the Holy Childhood Association. These "Children Helping Children" lead our school to help those children less fortunate than ourselves. St. Mary's PEC/Parent Association Parents are an integral part of the parish and school community and are encouraged to take part in the activities of the school. Parents provide the leadership needed for special activities, fundraisers, socials and other community building events. St. Mary's School has an active Parent Association which functions under the direction of the Parish Education Committee. From it's membership, the PEC appoints the Chairperson of the Parent Association. Meetings are held once a month (7 p.m. in the Staff room). |
