Principal Message

Dear St. Mary’s School Community,

This is the longest wait for Spring that I can remember! But it has to come sometime….

March has plenty on the go, despite Spring Break. We start off right away with our Ash Wednesday Mass on March 1, and all our families are welcome to attend. There is a Parent Association meeting on March 6 (all are welcome!), and on March 7, the St. John Brebeuf Band will be coming to visit and perform for our Gr. 3 – 7 students. The Gr. 4’s go to the Museum on March 8, and on March 10, Rocks and Rings is back! Students will be learning about curling in the gym with specialized rocks and rings. This was hugely popular last year, so they are back again. After Spring Break there is a Parish Mission led by Amanda O’Leary beginning on Monday, March 27. She incorporates a magic show into her talks, and will be visiting our school on Wednesday, March 29 in the morning and will speak to our intermediate students as well. March 31 is a Colour Day, and second term report cards go home that day. Throughout the month we also have our Masses and our Sacrament of Reconciliation, and all our extra curriculars (basketball, karate, etc.).

As we begin our Lenten Season on March 1, perhaps for this Lent if we are tired and unmotivated by ‘giving something up for Lent’, we could look at a way to be merciful, to do acts of mercy, to act with a heart of mercy toward someone we know. This way Lent becomes not only a season of self-denial and cleansing, but also a season of growth and fulfillment, and strengthening of our hearts.

Wishing you all of God’s blessings this month.

Mr. Bittante
